“Big Play” Slay is calling it a day.

Veteran cornerback Darius Slay announced his retirement on Monday after 13 NFL seasons.

A six-time Pro Bowler, the 35-year-old Slay won Super Bowl LIX as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2025.

“I’ve been blessed to play the game I loved since I was five years old for an amazing 13 years at the highest level,” Slay wrote in a social media post. “Football was peace, my joy, everything. This game put me in a position to help take care of my family and loved ones and I’m forever grateful. It’s hard to say goodbye, but God has a new chapter for me and I’m ready to turn the page and start my new journey.”

A native of Brunswick, GA, Slay was originally taken with the 36th overall selection of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Mississippi State by the Detroit Lions. After seven seasons with the Lions, he was dealt to the Eagles ahead of the 2020 season. Following five seasons with the Eagles, Slay signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers for 2025. Released by the Steelers in early December, Slay was claimed by the Buffalo Bills, but chose not to report. His final NFL game ended up being a 31-28 loss to the Chicago Bears on Nov. 23.

Slay finishes his career having appeared in 187 games, recording 655 tackles and 28 interceptions, including three pick-sixes. Slay led the league in interceptions in 2017 with eight as a member of the Lions and earned a first-team All-Pro nod.
