Sources: Buccaneers rookie Bain has AC sprain, 'nothing serious'

Buccaneers rookie pass rusher Rueben Bain Jr. suffered an AC sprain, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles confirmed Wednesday that Bain would be available for his team’s Week 1 game at the Cincinnati Bengals.

“He’s got a sore shoulder that he’s dealing with, so we kept him out today. He’ll be fine,” Bowles said.

The Buccaneers took part in joint practices with the Jaguars this week ahead of their preseason finale against Jacksonville.

The former Miami Hurricanes outside linebacker was selected with the 15th pick by the Buccaneers in the 2026 draft. Bain, the ACC Defensive Player of the Year after posting 9.5 sacks for national championship runner-up Miami, was considered one of the top edge rushers in the draft.

He is set to start at weakside linebacker for the Buccaneers as part of a revamped defense that also features free agent additions Alex Anzalone, A’Shawn Robinson, Christian Rozeboom and Al-Quadin Muhammad.

ESPN’s Jenna Laine contributed to this report.
