Packers sign Melton to active roster after big game against Vikings
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Bo Melton has been signed to the Green Bay Packers’ active roster one day after his breakthrough performance in a 33-10 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
The Packers announced Monday they have signed Melton off their practice squad and have placed wide receiver Samori Toure on injured reserve. The Packers also signed safety Tyler Coyle to their practice squad.
Melton caught six passes for 105 yards against the Vikings, earning him a game ball from coach Matt LaFleur. Melton scored his first career touchdown on a 9-yard catch in the third quarter and finished with the first 100-yard receiving performance by any Packer this season.
“From day one that Bo got here, (he’s had) just an unbelievable attitude, unbelievable approach,” LaFleur said after Sunday’s game. “He’s been team first all the way. Brings great energy. Takes great pride in his work, does a really good job when he wasn’t up, just giving great looks and performing well on the show teams, giving great looks to the defense, preparing our corners, preparing our defense for whoever the receiver may be that the defense needs to take away. Just really happy for him because he’s earned it.”
Melton has spent most of this season on the Packers’ practice squad, but had been activated for four games. The Packers had signed Melton off Seattle’s practice squad late in the 2022 season after the Seahawks selected him out of Rutgers in the seventh round of that year’s draft.
“It is difficult, I’ll say, being on the practice squad,” Melton said after the Vikings game. “I always thought of myself, believed in myself to be a great player. Being on the practice squad, can’t let them days get you down. You have to go out there and practice hard every single day. You never know when your time’s coming.”
Over his past two games, Melton has 10 receptions for 149 yards. He had just one career catch for 7 yards before that two-game stretch.
Toure, a 2022 seventh-round pick from Nebraska, has eight catches for 78 yards this season.
The Packers (8-8) close the regular season Sunday by hosting the Chicago Bears (7-9). A victory would earn the Packers a wild-card playoff berth.
