Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar told reporters Tuesday that both forward Gabriel Landeskog and defenceman Devon Toews will be out for the next while.

Bednar said via Corey Masisak of the Denver Post that Landeskog will miss “some weeks” with an upper-body injury, though it’s too early to tell if he’ll miss the Olympics or be ready in time to play for Team Sweden.

Toews is week-to-week with an upper-body injury and Bednar said he will miss a minimum of two weeks. However, he is expected to return before Landeskog.

Landeskog was injured and needed to be helped off the ice early in the second period of Colorado’s 2-1 loss to the Florida Panthers Sunday night. He lost his balance and crashed hard into the goalpost while skating toward the Panthers’ net and appeared to be in severe pain after the play.

Teammate Nathan MacKinnon told reporters the injury was not to Landeskog’s knee, referencing the injury that caused him to miss three straight regular seasons.

Landeskog has seven goals and 22 points in 41 games this year for the Avs.

Toews, who was named to Canada’s Olympic team last week, missed Sunday’s game after going hard into the boards legs first during Saturday’s win against the Carolina Hurricanes.

The 31-year-old has one goal and 13 points while averaging 22:20 of ice time in 40 games this season.

Colorado enters play Tuesday with an NHL-leading 69 points in 41 games.
