Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane left Monday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche due to an upper-body injury and did not return.
After the game, head coach Jeff Blashill told reporters that Kane would miss “the next couple of games.”
Kane was not on the bench to begin the third period and was officially ruled out soon after.
“He’s one of the heartbeats of this team. He’s Patrick Kane. We hope he’s back soon,” teammate Connor Bedard said after the game via WGN’s Charlie Roumeliotis.
The veteran winger played 10:20 and 2:22 on the power play prior to departing as the Avs went on to win 5-2. He had one goal and eight assists for nine points in 14 games coming into Monday’s matchup.
A three-time Stanley Cup winner now in his 20th NHL season, Kane re-joined the Blackhawks on a two-year, $16 million deal in the summer.
The Blackhawks will be back in action when they take on the Florida Panthers in Sunrise on Wednesday evening.
