Columbus Blue Jackets veteran winger Miles Wood has been placed on waivers less than a week before the team’s season opener.
Wood is entering the fourth season of a six-year, $15 million contract, featuring an average annual value of $2.5 million.
The 31-year-old Buffalo native scored eight goals and six assists over 54 games with the Blue Jackets last season, his first season with the franchise.
Columbus acquired Wood from the Colorado Avalanche in June 2025.
Selected by the New Jersey Devils in the fourth round of the 2013 NHL Draft, Wood has tallied 99 goals and 97 assists over 567 career games with the Devils, Avalanche and Blue Jackets.
He has five goals over 25 playoff games.
Engvall also on waivers
The New York Islanders placed forward Pierre Engvall on waivers on Saturday for the purpose of assignment to the AHL’s Hamilton Hammers.
Engvall is in the the fourth year of a seven-year, $21 million deal, featuring an average annual value of $3 million.
The 30-year-old missed the entire 2025-26 campaign due to an ankle injury.
Engvall played 62 games for the Isles during the 2024-25 season, scoring eight goals and seven assists.
Selected in the seventh round of the 2014 NHL Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs, Engvall has tallied 65 goals and 70 assists in 380 career games with the Leafs and Islanders.
He has two goals and six assists over 28 career postseason games.
The Islanders also placed Mitchell Chaffee, Liam Foudy, Daylan Kuefler, and Matt Luff on waivers on Saturday for the purpose of assignment to the AHL.
