The St. Louis Blues have hired former NHL star Mikko Koivu as the team’s European development consultant.

In the role, Koivu will work with the Blues’ European players and draftees as part of the player development department.

The 43-year-old spent 15 of his 16 NHL seasons with the rival Minnesota Wild, including an 11-year run as team captain.

Since retiring in 2021, Koivu has worked as an assistant coach and in player development with TPS in Finland’s SM-Liiga.

During his playing career, Koivu had 206 goals and 711 points in 1,035 games with the Wild and Columbus Blue Jackets.
