The Boston Bruins have traded goaltender Joonas Korpisalo to the New York Rangers in exchange for forward Kalle Vaisanen and a 2028 fourth-round pick.
The Rangers also signed free agent forward Oliver Bjorkstrand to a one-year contract worth $4.5 million.
Korpisalo skated in 31 games for the Bruins last season, going 14-9-6 with an .894 save percentage and 3.15 goals-against average.
The 32-year-old has appeared in 334 career NHL games split between the Columbus Blue Jackets, Los Angeles Kings, Ottawa Senators and Bruins.
He is heading into the fourth season of a five-year, $20 million contract with an AAV of $4 million.
Vaisanen, 23, skated in 51 games last season with the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, scoring three goals with one assist.
He was a fourth-round pick (106th overall) by New York in 2021.
Rangers Add Bjorkstrand
The Rangers have also agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent forward Oliver Bjorkstrand on a one-year deal.
TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston reports the contract is worth $4.5 million.
Bjorkstrand, 31, recorded 12 goals and 32 points in 80 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning last season. He did not record a point in four playoff games as the Lightning fell in the first round.
The 6-foot centre is coming off a five-year, $27 million contract that carried a cap hit of $5.4 million.
Drafted 89th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2013, Bjorkstrand has 184 goals and 416 points in 704 career games split between the Blue Jackets, Seattle Kraken, and Lightning.
Bjorkstrand represented the Kraken at the 2024 NHL All-Star Game, registering 20 goals and 59 points in 82 games that season.
The Herning, Denmark native represented his country twice at the World Hockey Championship in 2015 and 2018, finishing as high as 10th place.
