The Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning continue to trade chances at a high rate, but Game 6 remains scoreless after the second period on Friday night.

The Canadiens lead the best-of-seven series 3-2 and can advance to the second round with a victory.

The Lightning began the second period shorthanded thanks to a high sticking penalty taken by Jake Guentzel at the 19:49 mark of the opening frame.

The visitors were able to successfully kill what was the first infraction of the game.

Phillip Danault kept the game scoreless for the Canadiens early in the second period when he cleared a puck off the goal line after it slipped through goaltender Jakub Dobes.

Alexandre Texier was the first Canadiens player sent to the box after he took a high sticking penalty at 6:14.

The penalty kill did not allow a shot on goal as they were able to keep the game scoreless, shorthanded.

Lightning defenceman Charle-Edouard D’Astous took a slashing penalty at the 16:54 mark of the period.

Ivan Demidov was turned away twice on the doorstep by Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy, who turned in a pair of point-blank saves to help the penalty kill.

Dobes has made 16 saves through 40 minutes for the Canadiens.

Vasilevskiy has stopped all 17 shots through the opening two periods for the Lightning.

If the Canadiens are victorious in Game 6, they will advance to face the winner of the series between the Buffalo Sabres and Boston Bruins.

If the Lightning are able to force the series the distance, Game 7 will take place on Sunday at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa.
