The Vegas Golden Knights are acquiring forward Nic Dowd from the Washington Capitals in exchange for goaltender Jesper Vikman, a 2027 third-round pick and a 2029 second-round pick, it was announced Thursday morning.

Dowd has four goals and 16 points in 55 games this season. The 35-year-old centre is signed through next season at a cap hit of $3 million.

A veteran of 11 NHL seasons, Dowd has 88 goals and 104 assists for 192 points in 637 career regular season games. He had spent time with the Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks prior to his time in D.C.

Vikman, 23, has an 8-7-3 record with the AHL’s Henderson Silver Knights this season, posting a .866 save percentage and a 3.41 goals-against average.

He was selected by the Golden Knights in the fifth round of the 2020 draft.

Vegas made their first move ahead of the deadline earlier this week, adding winger Cole Smith from the Nasvhville Predators for defenceman Christian Sedoff and a 2028 third-round pick.
