Flames G Cooley exits game after first period against Oilers

Published:

Calgary Flames goaltender Devin Cooley exited Wednesday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers with an apparent injury.

Cooley, 29, was hurt in the first period when Oilers forward Colton Dach drove hard to the net and collided with the netminder.

Dach received a two-minute minor penalty for interference as Cooley was slow to recover.

The 6-foot-5 goalie completed the period but Dustin Wolf came out to take over the Flames’ crease to start the second frame.

Cooley had been red-hot of late, winning each of his last four starts without allowing more than two goals.

He left on Wednesday after allowing a goal on nine shots with the Oilers leading 1-0.

The Los Gatos, Calif., native has a 4-2-0 record this season with a 2.67 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage.

Calgary entered Wednesday’s action on a four-game winning streak and sat sixth in the Pacific Division with a 5-6-0 record.
