CALGARY — The Calgary Flames have signed forward Alex Nylander to a one-year, two-way contract worth US$850,000.
The 28-year-old son of Michael Nylander, who played for the Flames between 1993 and 1999, went to Calgary’s training camp on a professional tryout offer.
Alex Nylander, who was born in Calgary, had 24 goals and 29 assists in 65 American Hockey League games with the Toronto Marlies last season.
The six-foot-one, 205-pound winger scored six goals in all 24 playoff games for the Marlies, who won the championship Calder Cup.
Nylander was a first-round pick, eighth overall, by the Buffalo Sabres in 2016. He has 25 goals and 24 assists in 126 career NHL games with Buffalo, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Columbus and Toronto.
Nylander also has 307 points in 459 career AHL games. His older brother William Nylander has played 11 seasons for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
