The National Hockey League announced a stiff penalty for the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday a day after the team failed to make head coach John Tortorella to the media following its 5-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks in Game 6 of their Western Conference semifinal series.

The Golden Knights will forfeit a second-round pick in next month’s NHL Entry Draft and Tortorella was fined $100,000 for what the league called “flagrant violations” of media regulations.

In a statement, the league noted that the team had been issued a warning previously.

After Thursday night’s series-clinching victory, only forwards Brett Howden and Mitch Marner spoke at the podium. Forward Jack Eichel spoke to the TNT Sports broadcast immediately after the game.

The Golden Knights released a statement later on Friday, acknowledging the penalty and saying there would be no further comment from the team.

The Golden Knights will meet the Colorado Avalanche in the Western Conference Finals.
