Toronto Maple Leafs

Sergei Bobrovsky was in the starter's net at the Toronto Maple Leafs' optional skate on Saturday, per TSN's Mark Masters, and is expected to start on Saturday night against the Montreal Canadiens.

Bobrovsky, 38, has struggled in his first season with the Maple Leafs, as the two-time Vezina Trophy winner holds a 3-6-2 record with a 3.27 goals-against average - the worst mark in his career - and an .889 save percentage through 11 games.

Head coach Jim Hiller also confirmed to Masters that veteran forward John Tavares is set to return to the lineup Saturday following a nine-game absence with a lower-body injury.

Tavares, 36, returned to practice with the Leafs this week and shed his non-contact jersey for Friday's session.

He had recorded two goals and five points in seven games to start the year before going down with the injury on Oct. 15.

New York Islanders

New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal skated in a full-contact sweater at practice on Saturday, according to team reporter Stefan Rosner.

Barzal, 29, has yet to appear for the Islanders this season while he tends to a right knee inflammation that came up before training camp.

The Coquitlam, B.C. native rejoined team skates this week, but took the ice Saturday in a regular sweater for the first time since the injury.

Barzal scored 19 goals and 73 points in 81 games for the Islanders last season.

Carolina Hurricanes

Defenceman Alexander Nikishin skated next to Shayne Gostisbhere on the team's third pairing at practice on Saturday, according to Cory Lavalette of The Athletic, as the Russian blue liner inches closer towards making his season debut.

Nikishin, 25, returned to the Hurricanes last week after signing a one-year, $3 million extension to put an end to a contract stalemate dating back to the summer.

The Russian blueliner registered 11 goals and 22 assists for 33 points in 81 games played last season for Carolina, also skating in 17 games in the spring during the Hurricanes' Stanley Cup win.

Lavalette also adds that Pyotr Kochetkov is in line to start Saturday night against the Chicago Blackhawks, with Brandon Bussi set to serve as the backup.

Kochekov, 27, has made 11 starts this year and holds a record of 10-1-0 with a 1.64 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage.

Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators participated in a lightly-attended optional skate on Saturday morning ahead of their game against the Utah Mammoth Saturday night.
Goaltenders Linus Ullmark and Jonas Johansson were both on the ice for the session, but Samuel Ersson was not, indicating he is expected to start in net against Utah, per PostMedia's Bruce Garrioch.
Ullmark has been sidelined since Oct. 21 with a lower-body injury.
The 6-foot-4 netminder had been a rock for the Senators this season before the injury, going 7-1-0 and leading the NHL with a 1.33 goals-against average and a .945 save percentage.

Winnipeg Jets

Winnipeg Jets defenceman Josh Morrissey skated in a regular sweater in practice on Saturday as he inches closer to a return from a wrist injury suffered on Oct. 7, TSN's Danielle Bain reports.
Morrissey has three assists in four games this season for the Jets. He was averaging over 21 minutes of ice time per game before the injury.
The Jets were 3-1 with Morrissey in the lineup in a strong start to the season, but have cratered without him - going 3-7-3 over their past 13 contests.
Morrissey scored 14 goals and finished with 55 points in 77 games with the Jets a season ago.
