Toronto Maple Leafs
The Maple Leafs appeared to get some positive news on the injury front Monday as Chris Tanev took part in practice wearing a regular black jersey.
Despite the return to practice, head coach Craig Berube told the media that the veteran blueliner will not play Tuesday against the visiting Chicago Blackhawks, but didn’t close the door on him being back before Christmas.
Berube also didn’t rule out injured goalie Joseph Woll for Tuesday’s game.
“There’s a chance he could be ready. He had a good practice. He feels good,” Berube said.
Woll hasn’t played since suffering a lower-body injury against the Carolina Hurricanes on Dec. 4.
Tanev had previously been skating in a non-contact jersey. He has not played since being stretchered off the ice on Nov. 1 in a game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Tanev paired with Oliver Ekman-Larsson during the session, which suggests he could be slated to make his return when the Maple Leafs face the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday.
Tanev said after the skate his situation remains “fluid” regarding a return to the lineup.
Forward Matias Maccelli missed Monday’s session due to illness. He has been a healthy scratch in every game this month.
Dakota Joshua returned to practice after missing Saturday’s loss to the Edmonton Oilers due to illness.
Ottawa Senators
Head coach Travis Green said Monday that Thomas Chabot has resumed skating is getting closer to returning to the lineup.
The news was less positive on Shane Pinto, who was not resumed skating, and Lars Eller will be without for an extended period of time.
Linus Ullmark appears set to start Monday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets
Detroit Red Wings
Forward Patrick Kane will miss the team’s next two games with an upper-body injury.
He is considered day-to-day.
Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins added Stuart Skinner and Brett Kulak to their active roster on Monday, leaving both eligible to make their team debuts against the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.
Both players were acquired from Edmonton on Friday as part of Pittsburgh’s return for Tristan Jarry.
St. Louis Blues
Forward Dylan Holloway will miss six weeks after sustaining a lower-body injury during Sunday’s practice.
Holloway was helped off the ice Sunday during the team’s skate on Sunday.
The 24-year-old has netted eight goals and has nine assists over 33 games with the Blues in 2025-26, his second campaign in St. Louis.
Holloway, who was acquired from the Edmonton Oilers via an offer sheet in the summer of 2024, put together a career season last year, recording 26 goals and 37 assists over 77 games.
The Calgary native has 43 goals and 55 assists over 199 career games with the Oilers and Blues.
Chicago Blackhawks
Star forward Connor Bedard was placed on injured reserve Monday morning after suffering an upper-body injury late during Friday’s loss to the St. Louis Blues.
The move is retroactive to Dec. 12, meaning the 20-year-old will be sidelined until Dec. 19 and will miss Tuesday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena.
Defenceman Ethan Del Mastro and goaltender Laurent Brossoit have been recalled from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League in corresponding moves.
