Star forward Alex Ovechkin may not play the rest of the preseason as he recovers from a lower-body injury.
The 41-year-old has yet to appear in a preseason game and did not practice on Monday for the second day in a row. He is day-to-day according to head coach Spencer Carbery.
“Right now, we’ll see how it goes this week,” Carbery said via NHL.com. “We’ll be off tomorro
w and then we’ll come back and have two practice days, so I’ll be able to give you a more accurate update [after that] on when we see him play and how many games.”
The Capitals will wrap up their preseason with games Friday and Saturday.
Stars forward Cameron Hughes suffered an upper-body injury in Monday’s preseason contest against the St. Louis Blues, head coach Glen Gulutzan told reporters via NHL.com team reporter Robert Tiffin.
Gulutzan said the injury happened on a hit in his first shift of the game. He will be evaluated on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old played in three games with the Stars last season and had one goal. He also had 17 goals and 51 assists for 68 points in 67 games last season for the AHL’s Texas Stars.
