The Seattle Kraken announced on Friday that they have signed forward Jacob Melanson to a three-year, $4.35 million contract extension.
The deal carries an AAV of $1.45 million for the 23-year-old winger, who posted two goals, five points in 36 games with Kraken last season. He made his impact felt with 188 hits over his brief time in the NHL.
“We’re excited to re-sign Jacob,” general manager Jason Botterill said. “He brought a lot of physicality and energy to our group last season, and we’re looking forward to seeing more from him these next few years.”
Melanson added nine goals with 19 points in 28 games with the AHL’s Coachella Valley Firebirds.
He is coming off his three-year, entry-level contract and was a restricted free agent.
“I’m feeling awesome,” Melanson said of reaching a new deal. “My fiancé [Belle Ashley] and I are over the moon to have the deal done and be back in Seattle for another three years. She loves it here. I love it. It’s an amazing fan base.”
The Halifax native was drafted in the fifth round (131st overall) by the Kraken in 2021.
