Leafs’ Matthews sustains lower-body injury vs. Bruins

Jim Tatti, Jason Strudwick and Dave Feschuk discuss how much Auston Matthews could miss Mitch Marner, the expectations for the team this season and does Matthews have an obligation to reveal his injury from last season.

Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews left Tuesday’s game against the Boston Bruins with a lower-body injury and did not return.

The 28-year-old was hit by Bruins defenceman Nikita Zadorov prior to his exit midway through the second period.

“I don’t know exactly. I really can’t give you guys a timeline or how serious it is right now. And I’m not sure when he hurt it, to be honest with you,” Leafs head coach Craig Berube said following the game.

The Leafs trailed 4-1 at the time of Matthews’ exit.

Matthews entered tonight’s game with nine goals and five assists in 16 games played this season.

Goaltender Anthony Stolarz (upper-body) also left the game and did not return.
