Said Berube: “They’re looking at things going forward here, so I’m not gonna speculate on what they’re gonna exactly do. But he’s gonna be out a while.”
“They’re looking at things forward here, so I’m not gonna speculate on what they’re gonna exactly do,” Berube said ahead of Thursday’s game with the Winnipeg Jets. “But he’s gonna be out a while.”
Tanev, 36, did not dress in the team’s 4-0 win over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night. He previously missed 23 games with an upper-body injury, returning to the lineup on Dec. 23.
He has two assists in 11 games this season.
A native of Toronto, Tanev is in his 16th NHL season and second with the Leafs, having signed a six-year, $27.5 million deal with the team in the summer of 2024.
Tanev has appeared in 878 career games with the Leafs, Dallas Stars, Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks.
Joshua Also Out
Forward Dakota Joshua is also expected to miss significant team with a kidney injury, Berube told the media on Wednesday.
Joshua remains in Detroit after suffering his injury during Sunday’s overtime loss to the Red Wings.
The 29-year-old has six goals and four assists over 46 games with the Maple Leafs this season.
