Florida Panthers forward Eetu Luostarinen has been fined $5,000 for high-sticking forward Rickard Rakell of the Pittsburgh Penguins, NHL Player Safety announced Monday.
The penalty is the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement.

The incident occurred in the second period of Sunday’s game when Luostarinen caught Rakell up high while the two were skating around the Florida net. The play knocked the Pens’ winger to the ice and resulted in a double minor for Luostarinen.
Rakell finished with two goals on the day while Luostarinen was a minus-1 in 16:59 of action in Pittsburgh’s 5-2 victory.
Luostarinen has nine goals and 18 assists for 27 points in 68 games so far this season while Rakell has 24 goals and 24 assists for 48 points in 57 outings.
