The Toronto Maple Leafs claimed goaltender Cayden Primeau off waivers from the Carolina Hurricanes and Sammy Blais off the wire from the Montreal Canadiens on Monday.

Primeau, 26, was acquired by the Hurricanes from the Canadiens in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round draft pick on June 30.

The 6-foot-3 netminder went 2-3-1 in Montreal last season with a 4.70 goals-against average and an .836 save percentage.

He also had a 21-2-3 record with the AHL’s Laval Rocket with a 1.96 GAA and .927 save percentage in 26 games last season.

Blais joined the Canadiens in the off-season on a one-year, $775,000 deal.

The 6-foot-2 forward played last season in the Vancouver Canucks’ organization, recording 14 goals and 40 points in 51 games for AHL Abbotsford.

He last appeared in the NHL during the 2023-24 campaign, registering a goal and seven points in 53 games with the St. Louis Blues.

Sabres and Lightning make claims

The Buffalo Sabres also dipped into the waiver wire on Monday, claiming goaltender Colten Ellis from the Blues.

Ellis, 25, played last season with the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds, going 22-14-2 with a 2.63 GAA ad .922 save percentage.

The 6-foot-1 netminder was drafted 93rd overall by the Blues in 2019.

Additionally, the Tampa Bay Lightning picked up forward Curtis Douglas off waivers from the Utah Mammoth.

Douglas, 25, appeared in 63 games with the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners last season, recording 10 goals and 23 points.
