The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed defenceman Chris Tanev on the injured reserve and defenceman Dakota Mermis has been recalled from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies on Sunday.
The Maple Leafs announced earlier in the day that Tanev was discharged from the hospital and would return home to Toronto after being evaluated overnight in Philadelphia following an on-ice injury.

In Saturday’s 5-2 victory over the Flyers, Tanev collided with Philadelphia’s Matvei Michkov shoulder to shoulder with 11:37 minutes remaining in the game and he went down to the ice after his head snapped back.
He was attended to by trainers with his head and neck stabilized and was stretchered off the ice. Michkov was given a two-minute interference penalty.
Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube told reporters after the game that Tanev was taken to a Philadelphia hospital for testing.
Tanev had returned to the lineup that night after missing the previous four with a concussion.
The 35-year-old has two assists in eight games this season. Before departing on Saturday, he had one assist in 14:50 minutes of ice time.
Mermis, 31, has skated in two games with the Marlies this season and one with the Maple Leafs.
The Maple Leafs are back in action Monday night at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
