The Toronto Maple Leafs will be placing veteran forward Steven Lorentz on waivers Thursday.
The update comes after Lorentz was absent from practice earlier in the day. He has consistently skated as an extra forward in camp.
The 30-year-old winger posted seven goals and 18 points in 71 games last season with Toronto.
Lorentz remains signed through the 2027-28 season at a cap hit of $1.35 million.
Moving on from Lorentz is the latest move made by general manager John Chayka as he continues to reshape the roster. Chayka added forwards Colton Sissons, Jack Roslovic, Nick Paul, Teddy Blueger, Brandon Duhaime and Zack MacEwen this summer, while first-overall pick Gavin McKenna is also expected to crack the opening-night roster.
On the blueline, Chayka traded Simon Benoit as part of the deal add defenceman Emil Andrae and made a major swing in adding Darren Raddysh in a sign-and-trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning that included an eight-year contract extension.
Lastly, prized free-agent addition Sergei Bobrovsky is set to pair with Anthony Stolarz in net after both Joseph Woll and Dennis Hildeby were traded this summer.
A veteran of 381 career games with the Carolina Hurricanes, San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers and Maple Leafs, Lorentz has 36 career goals and 80 career points.
The Maple Leafs previously placed defencemen Dakota Mermis and Cole McWard on waivers on Wednesday.
