Mitch Marner collected two points in his first game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, picking up assists on goals in the opening and third period against his former team.
Marner, quarterbacking the top power play line for the Vegas Golden Knights, made a crisp one-touch pass to Pavel Dorofeyev, who one-timed the puck to get the home team on the board.
The goal cut into the Maple Leafs’ lead after they took a 2-0 advantage thanks to goals from Morgan Rielly and William Nylander.
Marner picked up his second helper of the game on the man advantage in the third period when he fed Dorofeyev who once again found the back of the net.
The goal shaved the Leafs’ lead down to 4-3.
The assists brought Marner to 38 on the season, and he has 49 points in 46 games during his debut campaign in Vegas.
The 28-year-old joined the Golden Knights as part of a sign-and-trade with the Maple Leafs during the offseason and inked an eight-year, $96 million contract, featuring a $12 million average annual value, with his new team.
Marner scored 221 goals with 520 assists in 657 games with the Maple Leafs.
