Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid continued his assault on the NHL record books on Monday.
With two assists in the Oilers’ 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues, the 28-year-old captain reached the 1,100-point plateau.
McDavid reached the feat in only his 726th career game which is the fourth fastest in NHL history. Only Wayne Gretzky (464 games), Mario Lemieux (550 games), and Mike Bossy (725 games) have reached the milestone at a faster pace.
The 6-foot-1 centre now has 364 goals and 1,001 points in his career, which is good for ninth among all active players .He sits 23 points behind Ottawa Senators forward Claude Giroux for eighth place and 29 points behind Toronto Maple Leafs centre John Tavares for seventh place.
However, he is a long way away from catching the No. 1 spot as Pittsburgh Penguins legend Sidney Crosby continues his assault on the all-time points list with 1,704.
Despite maintaining more than a point-per-game pace this season, McDavid’s goal scoring totals have taken a dip.
McDavid didn’t record his first goal of the season until the team’s seventh game, which is his longest drought to start a campaign and Monday night he was held without a shot last night for only the 28th time in his 11-season career.
The Richmond Hill, Ont., native is coming off a 2024-25 campaign that saw him record 26 goals, which was the lowest total since his rookie season. This year, he has three goals and 19 points through 14 games and is on pace for only 18 goals.
But McDavid has been known to pour the offence on in a hurry, once recording 17 goals in 18 games during the 2022-23 campaign that saw him win the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy. He also has goals streaks of four games or more four different times in his career.
Edmonton has a 6-5-3 record to begin the season and sit tied for second in the Pacific Division with the Anaheim Ducks and Vegas Golden Knights.
