The Pittsburgh Penguins announced a long-term deal for Ville Koivunen on Thursday.
The restricted free-agent forward has inked an eight-year, $32 million deal.
The 23-year-old Oulu, Finland native was acquired by the team in 2024 as part of the deal that sent Jake Guentzel to the Carolina Hurricanes.
Kovinunen split last season between the Pens and their American Hockey League affiliate in Wilkes-Barre last season. In 39 NHL contests, Koivunen scored two goals and added five assists. In 34 AHL games, he had 13 goals and 28 assists. Koivunen has two goals and 12 assists in 47 career NHL games.
Originally taken with the 51st overall pick of the 2021 NHL Draft, Koivunen has represented Finland on a number of youth levels. He won a silver medal at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship in Edmonton.
