The New York Rangers placed veteran goaltender James Reimer on waivers Thursday.
Columbus Blue Jackets defenceman Emil Andrae and forward Danton Heinen both cleared after being waived Wednesday afternoon.
Reimer signed a one-year, $850,000 contract with the Rangers on Oct. 25 as the Rangers needed goaltending depth after star goaltender Igor Shesterkin injured his knee early in the campaign that required season-ending surgery.
Reimer appeared in one game for the Rangers, but struggled as he allowed three goals on eight shots in a 6-3 loss to the Los Angeles Kings and was pulled after the first period.
A fourth-round pick by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2006, Reimer has appeared in 540 career NHL games, split between the Leafs, San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings, Buffalo Sabres, Anaheim Ducks, Ottawa Senators and Rangers.
Reimer being waived comes after Rangers head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed earlier today that goaltender Joonas Korpisalo will have a chance to join the team on their upcoming road trip through Seattle and Western Canada.
Korpisalo suited up with AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack last night as part of his conditioning stint, stopping 34 of 37 shots he faced in a 4-2 loss to the Hershey Bears.
The 32-year-old was acquired in the off-season from the Boston Bruins but has yet to make his Rangers debut due to a foot infection.
