The Detroit Red Wings have claimed defenceman Andreas Englund off waivers from the Calgary Flames and defenceman William Trudeau was claimed by the Nashville Predators from the New York Rangers on Saturday afternoon.
All other players placed on waivers Friday cleared.
Englund appeared in 52 games with the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals last season, scoring three goals with 13 points. He also skated in three games with the Nashville Predators.
He signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Flames on July 1.
The 30-year-old was originally drafted in the second round (40th overall) by the Ottawa Senators in 2014. Englund has skated in 200 career NHL games, scoring two goals with 20 points, split between the Senators, Colorado Avalanche, Chicago Blackhawks, Los Angeles Kings, and Predators.
Trudeau was traded to the Rangers from the Montreal Canadiens on June 26 in exchange for forward Brett Berard. He signed a one-year, $850,000 contract with the Rangers on July 6.
The 23-year-old scored eight goals with 20 points in 62 games last season with the AHL’s Laval Rocket.
A fourth-round pick (113th overall) by Montreal in 2021, Trudeau has yet to make his NHL debut.
