Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin is expected to miss the next two weeks with a lower-body injury, head coach Todd McLellan told reporters on Thursday.
Larkin, 29, last appeared during the team’s 3-1 loss to the Florida Panthers on Friday where he had an assist on 17:28 of ice time.
The injury occurred midway through the third period when he took a shot on Panthers netminder Sergei Bobrovsky but fell awkwardly. Larkin left the ice under his own power while holding his right knee.
Larkin is in the midst of his 11th season in the NHL and his Red Wings are in a position to make the playoffs for the first time in his career.
The 6-foot-1 centre has 28 goals and 55 points in 63 games this season and helped the United States win their first Olympic gold since 1980 in February.
Additionally, forward Andrew Copp will also be out two weeks with a lower-body injury.
Copp’s injury also occurred on Friday against the Panthers when Panthers forward Tomas Nosek fell on Copp’s left leg off a faceoff in the second period.
The 6-foot-1 centre is in his fourth season with the Red Wings and has eight goals and 37 points in 65 games this season.
