Forward Marcus Johansson is on the verge of returning to his home nation of Sweden to play for Farjestad of the Swedish Hockey League, according to Michael Russo of The Athletic on Friday.
Johansson, 35, played last season with the Minnesota Wild, recording 15 goals and 49 points in 75 games. He added four goals in 11 playoff games before the Wild were eliminated in the second round.
The 6-foot-1 winger is coming off a one-year, $800,000 contract.
Drafted 24th overall by the Washington Capitals in 2009, Johansson has 200 goals and 566 points in 1,058 games split between the Capitals, New Jersey Devils, Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Wild, and Seattle Kraken.
Johansson previously played for the Farjestad organization prior to being drafted in the NHL. He played for the under-18 team in 2007 and 2008 and was called up to main club for 45 games in 2009.
The Landskrona, Sweden native represented his country at Milano Cortina 2026, appearing in two games. He also represented Sweden at The Winter Olympics in 2014, taking home a silver medal.
Johansson represented Sweden at the 2024 World Hockey Championship, recording six goals and 12 points to take home a bronze medal.
