Buffalo Sabres defenceman Owen Power is feeling better than expected Friday morning after leaving Game 5 against the Montreal Canadiens in the third period, head coach Lindy Ruff said via TSN’s Mark Masters.

“That’s encouraging,” Ruff said when describing Power’s status.

The defenceman fell hard into the boards feet-first while trying to take possession of a loose puck. Power was slow to get to his feet and eventually made his way off the ice and down the tunnel. He later returned to the game as the Sabres fell 6-3 to go into a 3-2 series hole.

The 23-year-old blueliner played 21:52 in the defeat and picked up an assist on Josh Doan’s goal in the opening period. Power also had two hits and a blocked shot.

Game 6 in the second-round series will go Saturday night, where the Habs can advance to the Eastern Conference Final with a win at home.
