The Buffalo Sabres announced the additions of former NHL forwards Milan Lucic and Derek Dorsett to their staff on Tuesday.
Lucic, who announced his retirement earlier this month after spending the parts of the season in the AHL and Britain’s EIHL, will serve as a pro scout.
Dorsett will serve as a forward development coach. The 39-year-old last played with the Vancouver Canucks in 2017-18 and enjoyed a 10-year NHL career.
Lucic, 37, scored 233 goals with 353 assists in his time with the Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers, and Calgary Flames. He last appeared during the 2023-24 season, skating in four games in his second stint in Boston.
The Vancouver native helped the Bruins to a Stanley Cup title in 2010-11 season, scoring five goals and 12 points across 25 games on their way to a Game 7 victory over the Vancouver Canucks.
“Looking back on my career, I feel truly grateful to have fulfilled my dream of playing professional hockey, culminating with a Stanley Cup win in 2011 with the Boston Bruins,” Lucic said in a statement announcing his retirement.
“I want to especially thank the Bruins for giving me my start in professional hockey and for instilling the confidence to reach new heights as a player. Later in my career, I had the privilege of playing with some exceptional organizations in Los Angeles, Edmonton and Calgary. I look back with fondness at the time I spent with each organization and for the remarkable teammates I had the pleasure of playing alongside.”
Lucic attempted to come back to professional hockey ahead of the 2025-26 season after signing a PTO with theSt. Louis Blues, but was released in November following five games in the American Hockey League. He then signed with the Fife Flyers in England, posting five goals and 12 points in 26 games.
