The Buffalo Sabres have signed restricted free agent defenceman Olen Zellweger to a three-year, $9.3 million contract that carries a cap hit of $3.1 million.
The Sabres have also added UFA forward Conor Sheary and defenceman Dennis Gilbert to one-year, $850,000 contracts.
Zellweger, 22, was acquired from the Anaheim Ducks on June 26 in exchange for forward Anton Wahlberg and a draft pick.
Zellweger recorded seven goals and 22 points in 76 games with the Ducks last season while averaging 16:59 of ice time.
He added a goal and two points in three playoff games before the Ducks were eliminated in the second round while averaging 13:58 of ice time.
The 5-foot-10, left-shot blueliner is coming off his three-year, entry-level contract.
Drafted 34th overall by the Ducks in 2021, Zellweger has 16 goals and 51 points in 164 career games.
The Calgary native represented Canada at the 2024 World Hockey Championship in a fourth-place finish. He also represented his country twice at the World Juniors, taking home gold in 2022 and 2023.
Sheary, 34, spent the 2025-26 season with the New York Rangers. In 62 games, he scored seven goals with 18 points.
The Winchester, Mass., native has appeared in 655 career NHL games, scoring 131 goals with 285 points, split between the Pittsburgh Penguins, Sabres, Washington Capitals, Tampa Bay Lightning and Rangers.
He helped the Penguins win back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 2016 and 2017.
