Senators acquire F Eklund, two prospects from Sharks for 2026 No. 9 pick

The Ottawa Senators have acquired winger William Eklund as well as forward prospects Kasper Halttunen and Brandon Svoboda from the San Jose Sharks for the ninth-overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.

The Senators picked up the ninth-overall selection on Sunday in the deal that sent captain Brady Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers.

Eklund, 23, scored 15 goals with 53 points in 78 games last season with San Jose.

The seventh-overall pick by the Sharks in 2021, the Stockholm native has scored 50 goals with 163 points in 253 career NHL games.

Halttunen, 21, was drafted in the second round (36th overall) by the Sharks in 2023.

In 69 games with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda in 2025-26, he scored 16 goals with 35 points.

Svoboda completed his second season in the NCAA with Boston University in 2025-26, where he scored six goals with 15 points in 35 games. He was a third-round pick (71st overall) by San Jose in 2023.
