The Ottawa Senators have moved goaltender Linus Ullmark to a non-roster spot in order to make room on the 23-man roster for forward Lars Eller, the team announced on Thursday.
Ullmark took a leave of absence from the team due to personal reasons on Dec. 28. While he is off the roster, Ullmark’s full $8.25 million salary will continue to count against the cap.

Eller, 36, will return to the lineup for the first time since Dec. 11, when he sustained a lower-body injury. He has recorded two goals and six points in 28 games this season. The 17-year veteran has 190 goals and 430 points in 1,144 NHL games with the Senators, Washington Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins, Colorado Avalanche, Montreal Canadiens, and St. Louis Blues.
Ullmark last played in the Senators’ 7-5 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Dec. 27, where he was pulled after allowing four goals on 14 shots. He has appeared in 28 games in his second season in Ottawa, and owns a 2.95 goals-against average and an .881 save percentage on the season.
An 11-year veteran, Ullmark spent his first six seasons with the Buffalo Sabres before he joined the Boston Bruins, where he won a Vezina Trophy following the 2022-23 season. He has spent the past two seasons in Ottawa.
