The Ottawa Senators have sent goaltender Levi Merilainen to the AHL’s Belleville Senators, reports TSN’s Claire Hanna.

The 23-year-old has made one appearance this season, allowing seven goals on 26 shots in a loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Oct. 15.

The Oulu, Finland native started 12 games in Ottawa last season, posting a .925 save percentage and 1.99 goals-against average.

Merilainen was originally selected in the third round (71st overall) by the Sens in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Senators have opened the season 2-4-0 and have allowed a league-worst 30 goals through six games.
