The Ottawa Senators will be without defenceman Artem Zub and winger Warren Foegele on the ice as the team opens training camp on Thursday, head coach Travis Green said.
Green added both players had resumed skating, and are expected to return at some point over the next two weeks.
Zub, 30, is dealing with a lower-body injury that kept the blue liner on the sidelines for the final three games of Ottawa’s first-round sweep at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes in April.
The Khabarovsk, Russia native appeared in 81 regular-season contests for the Senators last year, scoring five goals while setting a career-high with 25 assists and 30 points in 20:47 minutes of action per game.
He is once again expected to play on the Senators’ top pairing alongsdie Jake Sanderson upon his return.
In 387 career games with the Senators since signing with the team as an undrafted free agent in 2020, Zub has recorded 24 goals and 90 assists for 114 points with a plus-37 rating.
The 30-year-old Foegele is battling an undisclosed injury to begin training camp.
Foegele was held off the scoresheet in each of Ottawa’s four Stanley Cup Playoff games this spring, but did net six goals and two assists after being acquired by the team from the Los Angeles Kings ahead of the deadline.
The Markham, Ont. native is a veteran of 581 NHL games over his the course of his nine-year career, posting 117 goals and 109 assists for 226 points in his time with the Hurricanes, Edmonton Oilers, Kings, and Senators.
