Stankoven has Hurricanes on top over Senators after first period in Game 3

Logan Stankoven opened the scoring for the third straight game as the Carolina Hurricanes hold a 1-0 lead over the Ottawa Senators after the first period in Game 3 of their first-round series.

Ottawa is looking to avoid a daunting 3-0 deficit after the Hurricanes picked up victories in the first two games of the series in Raleigh.

The Hurricanes got on the board just over five minutes into the frame when Stankoven’s snapshot beat Senators netminder Linus Ullmark to give Carolina a 1-0 lead.

Carolina went 0-for-3 on the man advantage while the Senators have yet to get their first chance on the power play. The Hurricanes are outshooting Ottawa 10-9 after the first period.

Carolina finished with the best record in the Eastern Conference with a 53-22-7 record and won the Metropolitan Division.

They are looking to return to the Eastern Conference Final for the fourth time in eight years and make the next step to get to the Stanley Cup Final.

The Senators have made the playoffs for the second straight season and are looking for their first series victory since the 2016-17 campaign.

Game 4 is set to take place on Saturday from the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa.
