Josh Morrissey appears to be nearing a return, which seemingly can’t come fast enough for the struggling Winnipeg Jets.
Morrissey wore a non-contract jersey at practice in Montreal on Monday. Head coach Scott Arniel said afterwards Morrissey is getting closer to returning and might be able to play this weekend when the Jets host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday.
The 31-year-old Calgary native hasn’t played since Oct. 7 due to a wrist injury suffered against the Colorado Avalanche.
Morrissey has three assists over four games this season for the Jets, who are winless in their last nine games. He was averaging over 21 minutes of ice time per game before the injury.
Mercer misses practice
Forward Dawson Mercer, recently acquired from the New Jersey Devils, did not attend practice due to an upper-body injury.
The 25-year-old has tallied two assists over five games as a member of the Jets this season.
Winger Cole Koepke missed last game, but is in line to play on Tuesday against the Montreal Canadiens.
The 4-8-3 Jets are coming off a deflating 7-0 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday.
