Dallas Stars forward Mikko Rantanen was fined $5,000 for his cross-check on Minnesota Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov during the Wild’s 5-2 Game 6 victory on Thursday.

The fine is the maximum allowable under the NHL/NHLPA collective bargaining agreement.

This incident occurred early in the third with the Stars and Wild fighting for the puck along the boards. Rantanen came into the fray to support his teammates and cross-checked Kaprisov in the face area.

Rantanen was given a two-minute penalty for roughing for the play with the game tied 2-2.

Kaprizov remained in the game and had 22:11 of ice time with one shot and a plus-2 rating.

The Wild ended up winning the game and clinched the series victory in six games.

Rantanen wrapped up his first full season with the Stars, registering 22 goals and 77 points in 64 games. He added a goal and seven points in the six-game loss to the Wild.

Minnesota moves onto the second round where they will play the Colorado Avalanche, who won the Presidents’ Trophy with a 55-16-11 record.
