Voting for the New York Islanders fan-driven third jersey contest is underway with eight finalists having been selected from more than 80,000 submitted designs.
The vote will be done under a bracketed format, with logos on different coloured sweaters facing off. A lighthouse logo on a navy sweater is up against the same logo on orange, the vintage fisherman logo will advance on either navy or orange as well. The team’s “NY” alternate logo will advance in either orange or navy as well, while fans will also pick between a navy jersey with “ISLES” centred on it and a navy jersey with a white centre featuring the full “Islanders.”
Voting opened Wednesday at Noon, with the quarter-final vote closing Friday. The semifinals will take place over the weekend, with a winner being crowned sometime following the end of final voting on Aug. 20.
The Islanders announced the contest last month for their 2027-28 alternates, marking the first time in NHL history that a franchise is allowing its fanbase to design a sweater.
“Islanders fans have once again blown us away with their incredible creativity and the sheer volume of participation,” Islanders president of business operations Kelly Cheeseman said Monday. “Both the passion of our fans and their overwhelming support throughout this contest have been extraordinary. From over 80,000 submissions down to our final bracket of eight, every step of this journey proves just how deeply invested Isles Nation is in the identity of this franchise.”
New York missed the playoffs for a second straight year in 2025-26, finishing with a 43-34-5 record. The team replaced head coach Patrick Roy with Peter DeBoer with just four games left in the season to try to reach the playoffs, but went 1-3-0 under their new head coach.
Rookie defenceman Matthew Schaefer took home the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie after scoring 23 goals with 59 points in 82 games while averaging 24:41 of ice time.
