Redden to be first Senators player inducted into Ring of Honour

Former defenceman Wade Redden will become the first player to be inducted into the Ottawa Senators Ring of Honour, the team announced Thursday.
Redden will be inducted during a pre-game ceremony before the Senators host the Anaheim Ducks on Dec. 12. He will join former coach and general manager Bryan Murray in the team's Ring of Honour.
"Wade was a great Senator, a poised, puck-moving defenceman who played in all situations," said general manager Pierre Dorion. "Wade's understanding of the game was elite; he had the unique ability to make everyone around him a better player. We're so happy that he's receiving this honour and equally happy that he's able to help pass on some of this impressive knowledge to our team as part of our development staff."
Redden played 11 seasons in Ottawa, playing in 838 games, which ranks fourth among all-time Senators. He sits fifth all time in points (410) and third in assists (309) and is the franchise leader in all-time plus-minus (159). Redden was named alternate captain in 1999, wearing the "A" for 11 seasons.
"Wade Redden's legacy in Ottawa is much more than just a hockey player," president Anthony LeBlanc said. "Outside of being one of the best defencemen to ever wear the Senators sweater, Wade was a trailblazing community leader - his commitment to CHEO and development of Wade's World opened doors for players past, present and future to leave a lasting impact on the people of Ottawa."
Redden was drafted second overall by the New York Islanders in the 1995 Entry Draft, was acquired by the Senators in a trade in January of 1996 and made his debut with the Sens during the 1996-97 season.
A veteran of 14 NHL seasons, Redden played in 1,023 career regular-season games with Ottawa, the New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues and Boston Bruins totaling 457 points (109 goals, 348 assists) and 665 penalty minutes.
He served as assistant director of player development for the Nashville Predators from 2016-17 to 2018-19 before re-joining the Senators organization as a development coach the past July.
