USA Hockey has named Auston Matthews as captain of the United States’ men’s hockey team for Milano Cortina 2026 on Sunday.
Charlie McAvoy and Matthew Tkachuk will serve as the alternate captains.

Matthews also served as USA’s captain at last year’s 4 Nations Face-off, where the Americans fell in overtime 3-2 to Canada in the final.
The 28-year-old has 26 goals and 48 points in 51 games this season with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The San Ramon, Calif., native has won the Maurice “Rocket” Richard trophy as the NHL’s top goal-scorer three times in his career and has also taken home the Hart Trophy, Ted Lindsay Award and Calder Memorial Trophy.
Since being drafted first overall by Toronto in 2016, Matthews has scored 427 goals with 775 points in 680 games.
