Ottawa Charge head coach Carla MacLeod will be away from the team for an “undetermined period,” the organization announced on Monday.
MacLeod was diagnosed with breast cancer in November and is stepping away to continue her treatment.
Assistant coach Haley Irwin will serve as Ottawa’s head coach on an interim basis.
“She remains in good spirits and is focused on her healthy recovery,” the team said in a statement. “The entire organization fully supports Carla and her family and asks that her privacy is respected.”
The Charge are currently one point behind the Toronto Sceptres for the fourth and final playoff spot in the PWHL standings with a 6-7-1-11 record. They have five games remaining in their season.
