Boston took Game 1 of the series on Apr. 30 as they got a pair of second-period goals from Alina Muller and Jamie Lee Rattray while Aerin Frankel turned aside 17 shots for the 2-1 win.
Ottawa would respond in Game 2 as goals from Ronja Savolainen, Fanuza Kadirova and Gabbie Hughes were enough for a 3-1 victory as Gwyneth Philips stood tall in net with 30 saves.
In a scheduling quirk, the two teams have had nearly a week off between Games 2 and 3 as Game 2 was played on Saturday.
Ottawa’s top offensive players have been quiet to start the series. Captain Brianne Jenner and Emily Clark, who was a star in last year’s run to the PWHL Finals, have yet to hit the scoresheet while Rebecca Leslie, who had 14 goals in the regular season, has just four shots on goal so far through the first two games of the series.
Veteran defender Jocelyne Larocque, who had eight points in the regular season, has stepped up with three points so far in the postseason. She had the Charge’s only goal in Game 1 and had two assists in Game 2’s victory.
The 37-year-old has been Ottawa’s busiest blueliner, averaging more than 23 minutes through the first two games of the series.
Boston has had just five players hit the scoresheet, led by Muller with three points.
On the back end, captain Megan Keller played 30:29 in Game 1 and followed that up with 29:11 of ice time in Game 2 while rookie Haley Winn has also logged heavy minutes with more than 28 minutes in the first game and 30:08 in Game 2.
Ottawa is looking to return to the PWHL Finals for a second straight year while Boston looks for its first finals appearance since the league’s inaugural season in 2024.
