The league said both incidents occurred during Saturday’s Game 1 against Montreal. The suspension is for an illegal check to the head of Montreal’s Kaitlin Willoughby that came at 19:12 of the second period. In their review, the league said Curl-Salemme “made no attempt to play the puck as she raised her forearm to make direct contact with the head of her opponent, where such contact to the head was avoidable.”
The suspension is Curl-Salemme’s fourth of her PWHL career. She received a major penalty and a game misconduct for the play during Minnesota’s 5-4 overtime victory to open the series.
The fine came as a result of an altercation with Montreal’s Abby Roque during the second period. The PWHL Safety Committee said in a ruling that Curl-Salemme “grabbed and pulled Roque’s facial protector, sending her opponent to the ice with a degree of violence that warrants supplemental discipline.”
Game 2 in the series will go Tuesday evening in Montreal.
