Bayern’s Kompany: Davies could return to game action in December

Alphonso Davies could be back on the pitch as soon as December, Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany suggested Friday.

Davies has been sidelined since tearing his ACL while playing with Canada in March and his status is a key storyline for the co-hosts ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“It’s definitely looking good,” Kompany told reporters Friday. “I hoped he’d be back at the beginning of January, but as things stand now, it might be a bit sooner.

“If he can play a few games in December, then everyone will have done a wonderful job. If things continue to go well, then we might have a very, very fit Alphonso Davies back (by then).”

Davies also sounded positive as he reflected on his journey back to the field.

“I’m running and training well,” Davies told the team’s website. “I just need to get a bit more muscle mass on my right leg.

“When the doctors told me how long it could take after the injury, I thought: ‘Wow, that’s going to be a long journey.’ But it’s all looking good now.”

Davies was injured in Canada’s win over the United States at the CONCACAF Nations League. His agent accused Canada of pressuring the soon-to-be 25-year-old to play despite him being less than 100 per cent.

Davies exited the game in the 12th minute favouring his knee after seeming to fall awkwardly while challenging for the ball in the Canadian penalty box.

Canada fell two spots to No. 28 in the latest FIFA rankings released Friday, but have found largely positive results in their time without Davies. Canada has five wins, three losses and two draws in 10 games since he went down.
