Canadian national forward Marcelo Flores suffered a myofascial tear in his left leg, his club team Tigres UANL of Liga MX announced on Saturday.
The team announced that Flores’ return to group training will be subject to his recovery process.
While Tigres has not reported the severity of the injury, it is possible that a higher-grade tear could carry a recovery time as long as 3-6 weeks, per OneSoccer.
That would prove another potentially costly injury to Canada’s World Cup hopes in June.
As TSN’s Steven Caldwell noted in this week’s Race for the Roster, Ralph Priso and Joel Waterman both suffered injuries in the past week and their status for the World Cup in June seems to be in peril.
Those two join a long list of Canadian players currently nursing injuries, including an extensive list of defenders: Sam Adekugbe, Moise Bambito, Alistair Johnston, Alfie Jones, Waterman and Priso are all nursing injuries in Canada’s defender group in the early part of April, while Stephen Eustaquio and Promise David are also dealing with injuries of their own.
That list does not include superstar midfielder Alphonso Davies, who has battled leg injuries throughout the 2026 calendar year but returned to action for Bayern Munich on April 4, while fellow forward Jacob Shaffelburg returned from a groin injury for LAFC earlier this month as well.
Flores is expected to serve as a depth option at forward for Canada’s roster in June, health permitting.
