Casemiro’s time with Manchester United is officially over.
Interim manager Michael Carrick confirmed on Thursday that the outgoing Brazil midfielder will not dress in Sunday’s season finale against Brighton, making his outing in the Red Devils’ 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest last Saturday his final appearance with the team.
“It just felt the right time, I think for Cassie, and it was decided, he’s part of that as well, so it was the right, it was a right time,” Carrick, who is widely expected to be given the permanent job, said. “There is an element of a balance, like I’ve just said about the last game, it’s not, we’re not done, you know, the season’s not done for us, so we’re really conscious of that. So there’s a real balance between trying new things moving forward, keep evolving.”
A 34-year-old native of Sao Paulo, Casemiro joined United in 2022 in a £70 million move from Real Madrid. He would go on to make 160 appearances across all competitions. Casemiro starred this past season, scoring nine goals in 34 league appearances as the Red Devils will finish third in the table.
Casemiro, who was named to the Selecao squad for next month’s World Cup, is expected to head to Major League Soccer with Inter Miami as his likeliest destination.
