Canada made a change to its roster on Monday ahead of three friendlies in this week’s international window.
Middlesbrough centre-back Alfie Jones has been withdrawn due to injury with Jamie Knight-Lebel, on loan at Motherwell, taking his place.
Canada will take on Chile in Toronto, followed by a match against Peru in Montreal and then a date with the United States in St. Paul.
The injury to Jones isn’t a serious one, but it’s enough to keep him out of the friendlies. The 30-year-old Jones incurred a calf strain in Boro’s 4-3 victory over Norwich City on Sept. 12. He did not play in the team’s 2-2 draw with Birmingham City this past weekend.
A 21-year-old native of Montreal, Knight-Lebel is in his first season in Scotland on loan from Bristol City. He’s made five appearances across all competitions for the Steelmen. Knight-Lebel spent last season on loan at Swindon Town.
Knight-Lebel has been capped three times by Canada.
The CanMNT’s first match is set for Saturday at BMO Field before the action shifts to Stade Saputo on Oct. 3 and then to Allianz Field on Oct. 6.
